Popular Sierra Leonean artist Emmerson Bockarie has stressed the importance of voting during elections. The ‘Borbor Bele’ star said:“Your single vote is your decision for the next 5 years. It is your decision on healthcare, education and the quality of life that you want for yourself.”
Emmerson who was speaking on 98.1 Good morning Salone program on Friday, July 28 said some of the politicians are not sincere to their voters. He said they used tribe to divide the people during elections.
Emmerson also said politician’s dishes out alcohol and rice to the people in exchange for their votes. He said that they are trying to set the standards this time not based on rice or alcohol. He described ‘Ranka politicians’ as liars and thieves. “We have to call things by their names; if someone is a thief we should call him a thief.
Emmerson said the authorities have refused to rent the National stadium to him to do a music concert. “They refused to give me the stadium for reasons best known to them.” The artist also stated that Politics has negatively affected the music industry.
Emmerson is one of 5 other artists who did the ‘Vote Nar Mi Life’ song which is currently trending in Sierra Leone. The other artists include, Steady Bongo, Slim G, Zainab Sheriff and Star Zero. The song is an initiative of the Institute of Governance Reform (IGR), one of the civil society groups of The Standing Together for Democracy Consortium. The IGR will be launching The People’s Manifesto at the Miatta conference center on Saturday, July 29th.
