The inauguration of Sierra Leone’s newly elected President His Excellency Julius Maada Bio on 12th May 2018 is set to be a star-studded ceremony as celebrities from Africa, especially from Nollywood, have confirmed their attendance, SaloneJamboree has learnt.
The First Lady of the Republic, Mrs Fatima Bio, said she has already got confirmations from Nigerian stars Davido, Omotola, Mr. Ibu, Osita Iheme and Mercy Johnson. “These are just some of the people I have worked with before, they want to come and support me and my husband,” said Mrs. Bio.
The anticipated star-studded Inauguration is as a result of Fatima’s career as an actress during which she has established good relations across the entertainment industry in West Africa and beyond.
She started in the UK after acquiring a BA (Hons) degree in Performing Arts from Roehampton Institute in London and went on to the African Film Industry in London which has made her not only one of the most elegant Nollywood actresses but also a talented scriptwriter and executive producer. She has cast with famous Nollywood actresses and actors, including Genevieve Nnaji, Osita Iheme (Pawpaw, in the award-winning movie “Mirror Boy.” She has also starred in movies such as “Battered”, “Shameful Deceit”, “Expedition Africa” and “My Soul”.
Fatima received several awards in the film and fashion industries. She was awarded as the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for the Miss Africa 2000; ZAFAA Awards 2011 for the movie ‘Mirror Boy'; 2011 ‘Best Actress Award’ from the Black Ethnics, Fashions and Film Industry in the UK; Pan – African ‘Woman of the Year Award’ by ‘All African Media’ based in Ghana. She was voted the Best Female Actress at the African Oscars in Washington DC in September 2013 from a list of 32 nominees in Africa People’s Choice Best Actress category. She won the award ahead of other Nollywood superstars, the likes of Omotola Jalade, Monalisa Chinda, Queen Amina and Ify Nollywood.
Some of the star guests are expected to perform alongside Sierra Leonean superstars later on Saturday at a banquet to be organised at an undisclosed venue. Emerson, Kao Denero and Boss LA are the Sierra Leonean stars to headline the event. More local stars are expected to join them at the banquet.
“All Sierra Leonean artists are invited,” said the First Lady. “This is our ceremony, we must showcase the talents we have.”
Probably, Fatima Bio is the first African celebrity (actress) who has rose to the rank of a First Lady. Her colleagues are going to celebrate this achievement.
The said visits are voluntary and cost-free to the Government of Sierra Leone, according to the First Lady.
