Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio will handover a Sierra Leonean passport to hollywood actor Idris Elba. Elba has just touched down in Sierra Leone. The British born, Idrissa Akuna Elba is visiting the country where his Father was born for the first time.
Elba’s mother Eve is a Ghanaian and his Father Winston a Sierra Leonean, the actor has visited Ghana more than twice. In 2014, Elba planned a visit to Ghana and Sierra Leone, he even tweeted: “I’m going back to where my Mum is from for her birthday… My first time… Next up Sierra Leone.” Elba visited Ghana but could not proceed to Sierra Leone because of the deadly Ebola outbreak then.
A very reliable source told SaloneJamboree that the actor will receive his Sierra Leonean passport for the first time after “the formalities.”
Elba met with President Bio in London on the margins of the UK-Sierra Leone Trade and Investment Conference. The four-time Golden Globe nominee said he wants to explore the great tourism potential of Bonthe Island. He was quoted to have said: “I want to come to Sierra Leone for the first time under your fantastic leadership.” Elba has expressed interest in an ambitious project of transforming Shebro Island into a tourism and cultural hub.
Elba’s visit is low key and much has not been said about his visit but our source said the ‘Beast of No Nation’ star was scheduled to visit Bonthe Island. SaloneJamboree could not confirm whether Elba would join President Bio to spend Christmas in Island.
Elba is expected to attend an event at the Bintumani Conference center on Thursday.
