The National Film Award is the first all-film award to be presented by a Sierra Leonean organisation. According to the organisers, there are various awards in the country but film or cinematography is not better represented. That categoris not informed therefore they came up with the idea to fully recognise all categories in the movie industry.

Godfather of the Award Idrissa Barry Jalloh spoke to Salonejamboree on their preparations: “The Sierra Leone National Film Awards (NFA) is presented annually to recognize excellence amongst both professionals and nonprofessionals who have contributed to the Sierra Leone film industry. He said NFA also facilitates the development and showcases the social relevance of Sierra Leone’s cinema from filmmakers across the globe.

NFA is an annual celebration of the brightest and the best in Sierra Leone movies. It is the biggest gathering of moviemakers across the country and from the diaspora.
