Hollywood Actor Makes ‘Passionate’ Appeal for flood victims

Hollywood actor Isaiah Washington has appealed for help for victims of the August 14th flooding and mudslide which left over 400 dead and 600 people missing in Sierra Leone.

The ‘Grey Anatomy’ star quickly took to facebook, the same day the flooding was announced to appeal for an online fundraising campaign to support the victims of the disaster. He posted on his official facebook account: “I hope this finds you all well. I know money is tight, but Mallence Bart-Williams is a friend and a trusted agent. She will get the funds to those in dire need.”

“Presently there is a flood in the capital of my country, Sierra Leone. People have lost their lives, homes and belongings. I would like to ask your support in raising funds to provide emergency relief.

Rains are expected to get worse and the situation might escalate further.

As of Monday, August 21st, Mallence charity has raised € 12.538 in 6 days with a set goal of raising €50k.

Mallence Bart Williams is a German-Sierra Leonean author, filmmaker and fashion designer and has been supporting young people in Sierra Leone through her FOLORUNSHO concept.

She wrote on the Go fund account page about her fundraising campaign: “The funds will be used to provide emergency help to the families affected by the flood, including water, food, emergency shelter, toiletries, mattresses, diapers, baby food, blankets.”

Isaiah Washington is an African-American actor and a veteran of Spike Lee films. Washington discovered through DNA testing that his great ancestors came from Sierra Leone. Inspired by this discovery, he embarked on a journey to Sierra Leone. He was granted a Sierra Leonean citizenship based on DNA. He built a school in Sierra Leone through his charity and has been a strong voice for Sierra Leone at the international stage.
