American-based Sierra Leonean rapper Algassimu S. Jarr. Jr better known for his stage name as ‘Shadow Boxer’ has been signed by a British Music Label, ‘7 Wallace’. 7 Wallace label is owned by the multi-talented Sierra Leonean superstar Idriss Elba.
‘Shadow Boxer’ becomes the first Sierra Leonean rapper to be picked on for signing by a major international record label, indicating how the rapper is pitching up in the international music arena.
The news was first broken in a 7 Wallace tweet and Shadow Boxer was quick to respond saying: “Thanks for the platform and opportunity accorded me; Blessing, and more blessing!
Earlier, in a statement released on their official Twitter account, 7 Wallace group welcomed the rapper, saying: “We are proud to welcome the talented Shadow Boxer to the “7 Wallace Music Publishing Team.” And then Shadow Boxxer flashed the spontaneous response of gratification to the platform and opportunity.
The news has been received by his Sierra Leonean fans back home with the fanfare of a hero’s welcome. And it does not only stop at home but across the globe; and in welcoming the news, many say ‘it is a step in the right direction.’
To his Sierra Leone fans, it is rekindled hope that ‘Shadow Boxxer’ will get the purrs out of the box and fly the tricolour of Green White and Blue higher than he has ever done in the entertainment industry.
Accolades have also been showered on the rapper’s latest elevation by popular local stars who immediately took to social media to express solidarity. Emmerson, Kao Denero, Empress P and many more were among the first but others refused to be left out in this. Bloggers and actors like Ram D and Isho also took to social media showing love and support upon hearing the news.
Shadow Boxxer was born in Alexandre, Virginia, to Sierra Leonean parents. In the early 90’s he was sent back to Sierra where he spent up to 10 years. He is a very talented rapper who became popular after the release of his song “Self Made”. He has been featured by various Sierra Leonean musicians in their tracks in the likes of Drizilik, Empress P and the list goes on.
He has several singles to his credit, including “Sunshine”, “My Identification”, “I Know”, “My City”, “Self Made” and “Confidential” which features Idriss Elba.
However, with this latest development, many fans are asking what will happen to Shadow BOXXER’s own record label, the West African Entertainment (WAF ETN).

Shadow Boxxer is signed by Idriss Elba’s ‘7 Wallace.’ Elba is a resident in the United Kingdom and his label, ‘7 Wallace’ was established in 2015 mainly to break boundaries in dance and hip hop music. ‘7 Wallace’ later expanded to include music publishing in a joint venture with Universal Music Publishing with studios in central London and Oxford.
French rapper James BKS was the first artist to be signed by the label. Shadow Boxer became the latest artist signed by ‘7 Wallace’ after signing several rap and dance artists, including U.K rapper Che Lingo
Idris Elba is an English Super Star with Sierra Leonean heritage. He acts, writes, produces, raps, sings and a DJ at the same time. He is popularly known for his roles in blockbuster movies, including “Stringer Bell” in The HBO series; “The Wire” and “Mandela, The Long Walk To Freedom,” a biographical movie of the late former freedom fighter and president of South Africa. Also, he was featured together with Nigerian superstar, D’Banj by Shadow Boxer in his 2014 single, “confidential.”
Elba visited Sierra Leone in December 2019 and was accorded Sierra Leonean citizenship.
